About Us

The history of the Pier dates back to its initial construction in 1907. The first version, built by the Ocean City Fishing Club, opened in 1916. It was rebuilt and repaired multiple times since then due to fires, storms, and ice.
The Pier's construction has been a continuous process of rebuilding and adapting to nature's forces. The original Pier was destroyed by a devastating fire on Christmas Eve 1925. A new Pier and building were constructed in 1926. Over the years, the Pier shortened and lengthened, often in response to damage. For example, in 1979, an ice storm demolished 140 feet of the eastern end of the Pier. More recently, a large section was toppled and destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The Pier was rebuilt and reopened by the following summer. The current franchise agreement with the town requires the Pier to be a certain length and width. The owner is responsible for rebuilding it after damage.
The OC Fishing Pier is an iconic landmark on the Ocean City boardwalk in Maryland. The Pier has been a central part of the town's identity for over a century and is located on the south end of the Ocean City boardwalk. It’s just past Jolly Roger at the Pier and the Pier Cafe. Enjoy fishing at your leisure 635 feet southeast into the Atlantic Ocean. Whether you're here to fish, sightsee, or enjoy the ocean breeze, the Ocean City Fishing Pier provides a truly remarkable experience away from the crowds.

Love Locks
Lock in the Love
All over the world, love lock locations invite people to attach a padlock engraved with names or initials to a fence, gate, bridge, or railing as a symbol of everlasting devotion. The key is then thrown away—into a river, ocean, over a cliff, or sealed in a box—never to be retrieved again. In many cultures, it is believed that when two people truly love one another and place a lock together, their bond is sealed forever. The origins of this tradition trace back centuries, when couples would take oaths of loyalty by clasping hands through looped chains. In France, lovers famously attached padlocks to the Pont des Arts bridge and threw the keys into the River below. One popular legend says the custom began when a couple separated by World War I reunited on the bridge with locks engraved with their names.
In several mountainous regions of China, couples place love locks on cliffside bridges and cast the keys into deep valleys below. There, the tradition blends modern romance with ancient beliefs in fate, permanence, and unbreakable commitment.
Many also place locks to honor children at birth or loved ones who have passed away. Whether for yourself or someone else, love locks are a way of declaring that love endures—long after time, distance, or even life itself has passed.
